Even though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their duties and roles within the royal family, they recently embarked on a trip that closely resembled an official royal tour.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were invited to Nigeria by the country’s chief of defense staff to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Video footage and photos from the couple’s three-day visit show Meghan beaming from ear to ear during her interactions, however, many of the photos show Harry with a “look of bitterness” much of the time.

Now, a royal expert is explaining what the reason is for the prince’s expression.

Why Prince Harry looked ‘bitter’ in Nigeria with Meghan despite successful trip

In May, Meghan and Harry visited the West African nation to promote the Invictus Games and also champion their Archewell Foundation’s mental health initiatives for young people.

Since many royal watchers and fans deemed Harry and Meghan’s “unofficial tour” a success, some are left wondering why the prince actually looked “bitter” in a number of photos including the duke’s biographer Angela Levin. She said there were some moments when Harry looked like he “would explode with anger and bitterness.”

Royal expert Tom Quinn offered a reason for that, explaining that the trip was viewed as a “kind of failure” for Harry.

He told The Mirror: “Harry and Meghan see their recent trip to Nigeria as a huge success, but for Harry, every success is another kind of failure while his family refuse to acknowledge his efforts and steadfastly refuse to apologize for everything that had happened in the past.

In Nigeria and even with Meghan at his side and regularly holding his hand he still has a permanent look of bitterness on his face.”
